The Guardian - 10 of the best back-to-nature stays in England
Glamping can mean nothing more than a large tent with a bed. The Gathering is different. The five tents at this new Peak District glampsite come with Hypnos mattresses, merino wool blankets, hot water bottles, wood-fired stoves, roll-top baths and such civilised extras as fresh croissants in the morning and deliveries of ice and lemon for evening drinks.
The setting is pretty cosseting, too: just outside Edale, at the start of the Pennine Way. Each tent has views of Grindslow Knoll, a hill linked to Kinder Scout – encouragement to set out on one of myriad local walks. The Chestnut Centre, with its owls, otters and deer, is 15 minutes’ drive away, and the Gathering arranges family-friendly activities in school holidays, from nature walks to arts and crafts and egg collecting. If rain stops play, there’s a sociable barn to retreat to and cook, play games and watch films.
Speedo team building
We wanted somewhere different, out of the way but close to amenities for our team building event and The Gathering fitted the bill perfectly. Tommy and his team were fantastic hosts and looked after us superbly from start to finish. The tents were great fun even in October and were very cosy and warm with the log burners lit. The beds and duvets were better than any I have slept in in a hotel and the lunches we delicious home cooked delights (no buffet sandwiches here!).
Such a great place and brilliant value too.
The whole team loved it -Glamping at its finest in the heart of the Peak District. You couldn't ask for a better team building venue and we can't wait to go back. Thanks to Tommy and his Team 10/10.
Awesome Experience
Superb accommodation, well equipped. Excellent night’s sleep thanks to the impressive Hypnos mattresses and Egyptian cotton sheets. Stunning views, beautiful location. Warm, welcoming, definitely worth a return visit.

An Amazing Experience Not To Be Missed
I would normally choose luxury over life under canvas but The Gathering has changed my views entirely by combining luxury and camping with real style. The stunning location sets the scene and the tent is extremely well equipped for six people with comfy sofa and chairs plus a dining table and all the cooking and dining equipment needed. Thoughtful touches include board games, cosy woollen throws and everything needed for cocktails! The bathroom was beyond expectations and having a candlelit bath by a wood burning stove is blissful.
Roam Far, Gather Near & Sleep in Luxury
I don’t usually do reviews - but I had to for this amazing place. We took the whole family to the Gathering on a whim (I’m not usually a happy camper) and had the very best sort of family holiday possible. Such comfort and homeliness deep in the heart of the high peaks. We caved and gorged with Acclimbatize who were fantastic - we did an amazing whole day with them deep underground and high above ground and covered in water - at a great rate.
We did a lazy day on the Monsal trail hiring excellent bikes at the station and cycled the beautiful abandoned train track, over viaducts and through tunnels, ate a long easy delicious meal at the Monsal Head, and then a lazy afternoon swimming in the river under the viaduct.Thank you to Kirsty and Tom for redefining "camping " for me - I think I could do it again....
Eden In Edale
It was glorious. It's all very easy to use and very comfortable. Such lovely people, incredibly kind and hospitable, from the start of the booking process through to our waving a sad goodbye. You really must stay there.
Heaven!
Beautiful tent in beautiful surroundings for us (family of 5). Tom was incredibly kind and helpful. Fantastic scenery as well. Hoping to come back to this wonderful spot in the future. Thanks for everything!
Absolutely Perfect
It was amazing, the tent was just as described but exceeded our expectations. The luxury of a lovely bathroom and a wood burning stove to keep you warm and dry is just glamping at its best! They were super dog friendly which made our stay even more relaxing.
What a fantastic holiday, amazing place, amazing memories we just didn't want to leave and we will certainly be back! There's so much to do locally I think next time might be a longer stay.
Wow, what a find.
Superbly equipped luxury tents, stunning views at the very start of Pennine Way.Nights spent barbecuing and sitting around fire pit listening to sheep and watching stars. Days exploring caves and local attractions., picking wild bilberries for breakfast and having dip in streams just a stroll from the tent. Idyllic. Lovely friendly hosts Tommy and Kirsty who couldn't have done more to make our stay as pleasurable as possible - lovely people
A very special place.
This was camping like we had never experienced before. The beds were really comfortable and the tent was brilliantly equipped. We had deliveries of logs and kindling each morning to fuel our two woodburning stoves and had plenty of hot water in no time. With the paraffin lamps inside and the fire cauldron and barbeque outside we soon set about creating a lovely atmosphere and enjoying a most wonderful and relaxing time together. The setting is stunning with a beautiful walk along a stream and up the valley only minutes away. We had the most perfect time here.
Nothing short of breathtaking.
Everything was thought of and we had the best time ever. Absolutely beautiful place with beautiful scenery.
